Sony launched the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus mid-range smartphones in February 2019 at Mobile World Congress. The devices came with Android 9 Pie-based Xperia UI out of the box. After a long wait, the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus gets the Android 10 update.
Back in November 2019, the company officially confirmed that the Android 10 update for the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus will be released in early 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic may have delayed the release. The stable update comes just a month after Xperia 10 devices were added to the Open Devices Program.
Sony releases Android 10 update for Xperia 10 series
The Android 10 update with the build number 53.1.A.2 comes in at 717.2MB of download size. It is available for both the single SIM and dual SIM variants in Russia. A wider rollout for other markets is expected soon. It also includes the March 2020 Android Security Patch Level.
If you are interested, you can also manually check for the latest firmware update. To do so, simply head over to Settings > System > Advanced and tap on 'Software update’. In case the update is available in your region, you will get an option to install it. Interestingly, the Android 10 update for the Xperia 10 series comes just before the Xperia 10 II (read as 'Xperia 10 Mark 2′) goes on sale.
Brings all the new features introduced in Android 10
While no changelog is mentioned for this update, it should include all the new Android 10 features like improved privacy settings, better notification controls, and system-wide dark mode. Earlier this year, the company released the stable Android 10 update for the Sony Xperia XZ3, Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Compact, and Xperia XZ2 Premium smartphones.
Sony launched the new Xperia 10 II as a successor to the last year’s Xperia 10. This year, the company skipped launching the Plus moniker. The new Sony Xperia 10 II comes with the latest Android 10–based Xperia UI out of the box. Both the Xperia 10 devices came with a tall 21:9 cinematic aspect ratio.
The devices offered a 3.5mm headphone jack, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a USB Type-C charging port. Coming to the differences, the Xperia 10 sports Snapdragon 630 chipset and 13MP + 5MP dual rear cameras. On the other hand, the Plus variant came with a slightly more powerful Snapdragon 636 chipset and 12MP + 8MP dual camera setup.
With the new-gen Xperia 10 II, the company is also offering an OLED display that offers precise colour reproduction and excellent brightness levels. It is now available for pre-orders in the Europe for EUR 370.
