The LG Velvet is the first smartphone to feature LG’s new design language. The company has now listed the LG Velvet 4G on its German website without making any formal announcement.
Compared to the 5G variant, the LG Velvet 4G uses the exact same hardware apart from the processor. Even the design looks similar with the raindrop camera setup on the rear and symmetrical curves.
The LG Velvet 4G comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845
We also expect the 4G variant to feature the same premium build quality. As for the mobile platform, the new LG Velvet 4G features a two-year-old Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform built on the 10nm FinFET process. In comparison, the Velvet 5G is equipped with the Snapdragon 765G 5G Mobile Platform built on the more advanced 7nm EUV process.
However, the Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform, which was used in the LG G7 ThinQ series, is still a decent performer for a mid-range smartphone. The decision not to go with the last-gen Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform could be to subsidize the overall pricing.
LG revamped its smartphone lineup and introduced a new smartphone lineup that emphasizes design over specifications. The new LG Velvet 4G also comes with the same 6.8-inch POLED display with Full HD+ (2340 by 1080 pixels) resolution sand 20:9 aspect ratio.
The variant listed on the website packs 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It also supports storage expansion using the MicroSD card slot. On the rear, it sports triple camera setup featuring a 48-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 5-megapixel depth camera.

For selfies, there is a 16-megapixel camera placed inside the waterdrop notch. In terms of output, the Spectra 355 ISP from the Snapdragon 765G might outperform the Spectra 280 ISP from the Snapdragon 845.
It’s powered by a 4,300mAh-capacity battery and supports Quick Charge 3.0 and 9W wireless charging. Just like the 5G variant, there is also a 3.5mm headphone jack on the LG Velvet 4G.
The device measures 167.08 x 74.0 x 7.85 mm and weighs 180 grams. It comes in Aurora Silver and Black color options. Looks like the Aurora Red and Pink White colorways are exclusive to the 5G variant. Additionally, it also comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner and stereo speaker setup.
We also expect the 4G variant to also support accessories like Dual Screen cover and Stylus pen. It is also water and dust resistant with the IP68 certification and is also MIL-STD-810G certified for its durability. On the connectivity front, the device supports 5G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C port.
While the 5G variant costs €650, the new 4G variant will retail for €499. With the 4G variant, the company is expected to target the markets with no 5G coverage.
