Samsung seems to be unraveling new possibilities and innovative designs. Because as per the latest report from LetsGoDigital, Samsung has filed a patent for a sliding phone with two displays.
When it comes to foldables or even clamshell phones, Samsung is the undisputed king at the moment. Yes, other manufacturers have shown their interest in this segment. But they are at a very early stage.
On the other hand, Samsung has already released the second-generation of its foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Moreover, there is a new 5G variant of the Galaxy Z Flip as well.
Motorola is keeping an eye on that segment with its Moto Razr, but with mediocre specs, the phone is a no competitor for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
And now, the latest patent by Samsung confirms that the company wants to explore more possibilities in bringing innovative design smartphones.
This time the design filed by Samsung is pretty bold. It does not have a screen, in fact, there is no frame at all. There is a sliding mechanism that houses both the front and back screens.
Besides, the sliding mechanism also houses the camera system, which is quite unique. Apparently, LetsGoDigital also highlights that patent consists of 100% screen and nothing else.

Reportedly, Samsung filed for this two-screen, no frame, sliding phone patent back in July 2020 at the USPTO.
Later, it was published on October 29, 2020, and included in the database of the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office). This is done in order to protect the patented technology.
The patent is a 70-page document that describes how Samsung wants this product to work. Basically, the device is all-screen and cameras and speakers are housed behind the sliding mechanism.
Notably, the front screen is a curved display, while the back screen is a flat slab. This could be nightmarish for many users as the new design seems delicate and would be a fingerprint container.
The front screen used in the device could be an AMOLED or LCD display. While the back screen could be an e-ink screen. It would be challenging for the app developers to create apps that would simply flow from one screen to another.
The patent also showcased one feature that allows the users to drag something from the front screen to the screen at the back. But seeing the complication of the design, we won’t be seeing this smartphone materialize anytime in near future.
The selfie camera is housed under the front screen. Samsung could have housed the front camera behind the back screen as it has done for the rear camera. As the under-display camera hampers image quality.
