Back in September, Google Maps got the essential COVID-19 layer that showed weekly average numbers of the coronavirus cases recorded across 220 countries from official sources.
And in order to bring more information and help users safely navigate during the holiday season, Google has decided to up its game in giving more information to its users.
Both the iOS and Android versions of Google Maps will gain the all-time recorded cases of a given area. And also, links to local authorities for medical or emergency purposes will also be provided.

So, taking a quick glance at the information from Real-time crowdedness, users can change their traveling plans accordingly. The accuracy of the results will depend on the popularity of the place.

Good news for Google Maps users in the United States, Canada, Germany, Australia, Brazil, or India, as these regions are getting the live status of takeout and delivery orders feature.

One of the much-awaited features that have long under testing is the Google Maps Assistant Driving Mode. Note that this feature is currently only available for Android users in English. And that too in the US.
Assistant Driving Mode
With this feature, users can make use of their voice to respond to voice calls or send text messages. In fact, the users can also make the Assistant read their message out loud without having to look at the phone.
Additionally, you will also be able to control your media playback without the need of leaving the navigation screen. You can enable this feature by heading over to the Assistant Settings>>Getting around>>Driving mode.
Note that all the features, except the Google Maps Assistant Driving Mode, are available to both Android and iOS users. A new update will be rolling out for all the users in the coming weeks.
