A new report by Search Engine Roundtable highlights that Google is also cashing in the growth and popularity of Instagram Reels and TikTok. Because Google App for mobile will show Instagram Reels and TikTok videos.
The short video format has seen a tremendous rise, thanks to the arrival of apps like TikTok, etc. However, TikTok was facing some hurdles in countries, including the US.
And taking advantage of this situation, Instagram introduced its own short video feature, Reels. The feature is similar to what you can do on TikTok.
You can showcase your talent, or just record some cringe videos and share them with users across the globe. Instagram Reels has also become very popular in a short span of time and has even gotten a dedicated place within the Instagram app.
Now, Google App on mobile will show Instagram Reels and TikTok videos in a dedicated carousel. This move will help Google retain users on its platform instead of completely leaving the app.
The Instagram Reels and TikTok videos will appear in the personalized feed within the Google app. On some Android devices, this page is found on the left of the home screen.
TikTok & Instagram Reels videos on Google App is different from Google Stories
One important thing to note here is that one should not confuse TikTok and Instagram Reels videos showing up on the Google app with Google Stories. These are completely different.
FYI, the Google Stories feature was rolled out back in October 2020 and it is a part of Google Search for Android and iOS. The feature is live for users in India, the US, and Brazil.
Now coming back to the latest feature on the Google App, to browser Web Stories in Discover. Notably, you need to open the feed and that’s it! You will be shown all the popular Instagram Reels and TikTok videos in a dedicated carousel.
Users can tap to head over to the next page or swipe through to see a different story in the carousel. Talk about Google Stories, it shows content created by the company’s online publishing partners like Forbes, USA Today, Vice, and more.
Besides, this dedicated carousel not only shows TikTok and Instagram Reels videos, but it will also show content from Trell and YouTube as well.
When the user clicks on the content, they will be redirected to the web version of the app and not the native mobile app. This allows Google to retain users on its platform.
