One of the best streaming devices out there, the Chromecast with Google TV device, is now receiving a new update. The new update brings new features and makes it even better.
Notably, the update brings support for one important feature, i.e. Dolby Vision. Yes! According to a report by Tomsguide, Dolby Vision support is now added with the latest update for Chromecast with Google TV.
Although Dolby Vision is available on a few apps, the experience of watching it on the big screen is awesome. Some apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc. have plenty of Dolby Vision content to enjoy.
Dolby Vision support for Chromecast with Google TV offers premium HDR technology. This means the device will support every HDR technology there is.
Apparently, HDR10+ certification arrived for the device earlier this year. Chromecast with Google TV already has had support for both HDR10 and HLG for quite some time now.
HDR10+ and Dolby Vision allow for higher resolutions, higher peak brightness, and deeper black levels for extra rich videos.
New Chromecast with Google TV update eats up an extra 158MB of the device’s storage space
The new update, that adds the feature of Dolby Vision with HDR10+ brings Chromecast with Google TV at par with other streaming devices. This includes Roku Streaming Stick 4K and Apple TV 4K.
As noted by Tomsguide, the new Chromecast update eats some about 158MB of storage space. The good thing about the update is that it optimizes the storage. Users have reported an extra 200-300MB after updating their devices.
Well, Dolby Vision is not only the one thing that this new update adds for the Chromecast. It also includes better DRM video encoding. There is also a dedicated uninstall app menu, from where you can uninstall apps from the device easily.
Moreover, the update also bumps the security patch level to October 1, 2021. Though the security patch is not the latest, better security is always a bonus. However, the device still runs on Android 10 OS, which launched back in 2019.
If you own the Chromecast with Google TV device and want to check for the latest update then, you need to head over to the Settings menu > System > About > System Update.
Make sure you are downloading this update on a stable internet connection and your device has sufficient free space. Otherwise, the update won’t install and you will miss out on the new features.
